Instructions

In this activity, you will write a non-fiction article on a subject of your choice that you will then share with the class. You may work alone or with one other person. You are encouraged to help each other as much as you like.

Step 1

As a class, we will review the inverted pyramid approach to writing an article.

Step 2

In groups of 2-4 students, you will analyze an article provided by the teacher.

Read the article together and identify elements of the inverted pyramid, including the 5 W's. We'll generally be following the instructions on this page.

Step 3

Your group will share your article and analysis with the class.

Step 4

As a class, we will brainstorm possible topics for your own article.

Decide if you are going to work alone or with one other person. Next, choose your topic and create an outline following the inverted pyramid approach.

After completing your outline, write your story. Be sure to include a descriptive title and your name(s).

When you are finished, turn your article in on Google Classroom.
